Kidderminster Polygraph Examiner advises on Valentine’s Day Cheater

This enquiry came in from a wife who is worried that her husband spent Valentine’s Day with another woman. Our Kidderminster Polygraph Examiner responded to it.

Q: Will a lie detector test help me discover where my husband was on Valentine’s Day?

My husband is a fireman and was allegedly working on Valentine’s Day so we couldn’t spend it together.  He was busy all through February so I didn’t even get a card, let alone a gift.

His credit card bill arrived the other day and there is an item on it that I don’t understand. He has spent over £1,000 with an online jeweller but I don’t know what he bought.  The jeweller won’t tell me without getting permission from my husband to divulge the information.

When I drew my husband’s attention to it he said there must be some mistake. He has since said that his card had been used fraudulently and he’s reported it to the police.

My problem is that I don’t believe him.  He was annoyed that I’d opened his mail whereas usually he doesn’t mind.  He was even more enraged when I told him I’d called the jeweller.

I may be very wrong but I think he bought someone an expensive Valentine’s gift and is cheating on me. I’m even more worried that he’s going to leave me without confessing. I imagine being left a “Dear Jane” note.

Can a lie detector test help me find out what I want to know?

Response from Kidderminster Polygraph Examiner

Living with suspicion becomes unbearable and I am sorry to hear about your situation.  The short answer to your question is that a lie detector test can help you establish the truth.

You haven’t provided much information about your relationship in terms of how long you have been married or whether your husband has cheated before. However, despite the ‘evidence’ looking dire, it may be that it’s not what you think.

Your husband wasn’t able to spend Valentine’s Day with you. Is It possible that he has bought you a special gift? Perhaps he is waiting for some time off to spend quality time together and surprise you. You will know better than I if this is likely.

If you don’t think that’s a possibility then ordering a lie detector test for him may be the best route forward.  But you will need to get him to agree to take one.
