Advice from Watford Polygraph Examiner about Infidelity Fears

Our Watford polygraph examiner dealt with a query this week from a worried wife, suspicious about her husband’s behaviour.

Q: If I book a lie detector test in Watford will it establish whether my husband is cheating or not?

I’m writing to you as I don’t know if I’m going crazy or being paranoid but I think my husband is cheating. It all started when he came back from a supposed golf game with his friends. He came in the house, I gave him a kiss and he smelt of perfume. I asked him why and he explained he’d been to a perfume shop to get me a gift. When I asked where it was, he said he couldn’t find one he liked so hadn’t bought me any. I didn’t think much of it at the time, as he’s always buying me surprise gifts, so I let it go.

Last week, I was doing the washing and found a perfume receipt in his pocket. Not wanting to spoil the surprise, I didn’t mention it. He still hasn’t given me the gift.

Later in the week I had cause to look in his wallet and I found a condom. We have been married for 5 years and I have the implant, so we never use condoms and we never have. I asked him where it had come from and he told me it’s always been in there and he keeps forgetting to throw it away. This seems innocent enough but why have I never seen it before? And why would he keep a condom that would clearly now be out of date. I checked again last night and it’s gone, so maybe he’s thrown it away so I don’t check the date on it. Or possibly he’s telling the truth and, as I’ve questioned it, he’s binned it.

My worst fear is that he’s used it with another woman and the perfume was for her and not me. Do you think a lie detector test could help me?

Response from Watford Polygraph Examiner

To directly answer your question, yes a lie detector test in Watford or anywhere else you would like to book, will help.

Your husband may be telling the truth but you are not “crazy or paranoid” for being suspicious.  Most women would be.

It is strange for a man to keep a condom in his wallet for at least 5 years. It’s equally odd that you haven’t received the perfume yet unless you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary soon.  If you are, he may be saving the gift for that special occasion.

However, all things considered this behaviour is making you doubt him and suspicion erodes trust.  Better to know the truth, rather than speculate on it.
