Q: If I book a lie detector test in North London will it establish whether my lover is cheating on me or not?
I’m a married woman in my late 40s and I’ve been having an affair with a colleague for around 9 months.
Before you judge me, my husband works exceptionally long hours and we hardly see each other. We have been married for 22 years and our sex life is non-existent.
The guy I am having an affair with showed interest me and is really fun to be with. He’s not only after sex but also is considerate to me as a person. We have shared interests and get on so well. I’ve never cheated on my husband before.
My lover is 10 years younger than me and I assumed he was single. But I’ve found out that he is married too. Not only that I’ve heard rumours that he’s seeing another woman. She works in a different department to me.
I’ve asked him about the rumours and he denies seeing anyone else. He says he didn’t mention he was married because I never asked. His marriage he says is one of convenience and he no longer sleeps with his wife.
My problem is that I am deeply in love with him. Up until hearing about all of this, I was seriously thinking about leaving my husband for him. I can’t do that without knowing that he’s telling me the truth.
If I book a lie detector test in North London for him, will it tell me what I want to know?

Firstly, I should point out that we don’t judge anyone. It is an essential and mandatory part of a polygraph examiner’s work to be absolutely impartial. So you need not worry on that score.
If you lover agrees to take a test we can formulate questions so that you get the answers you want. However, you might want to consider the following:
You haven’t said whether or not you’ve asked if your lover wants to commit to you. It might be an idea to do that before ordering a lie detector test for him.
Also you say that you can’t leave your husband without knowing if your lover is telling you the truth. If you are so unhappy in your marriage is there a point in staying in it? Hedging your bets is never a way forward.
Have you considered relationship counselling to see if you can get your marriage back on track?
An affair is often exciting and it’s easy to show interest in someone for a couple of hours here and there. Forbidden sex might be exhilarating but life does get in the way when you are married or living together. There are bills to pay, responsibilities, children and a host of other things that affect relationships.
Often when cheating leads to a more permanent relationship, it can cause friction. You are cheating on your husband and he is cheating on his wife. Will you be able to trust each other if you do get together? You already doubt whether this man is cheating on you with someone else.
