Portsmouth Lie Detector Test Query from Refugee

This query for a Portsmouth lie detector test comes from a now settled refugee. Our Hampshire Polygraph Examiner responded to it.

Q: I was sexually abused and raped in a Syrian refugee camp. Will a lie detector test prove I am telling the truth?

When I was 20 and in a Syrian refugee camp, a charity worker sexually abused and raped me. He was nice to me when we first met and told me that he could help me get out of there. I didn’t look my age and he said that if I told the authorities that I was 13 I would be given priority to leave.

I am ashamed to say that I took his advice and arrived in Britain as a ‘13 year old child’. Now I am officially 20, but in reality 27 and at University.

Recently the charity worker contacted me and says he is coming to see me “to continue where we left off in Syria”. I told him I don’t want to see him but he says that I don’t have a choice. If I don’t agree he will contact the authorities and tell them my real age.

In many respects I am not as worried about being exposed as I am about the authorities not believing me if I report him. As he says, I have lied about my age so who is going to believe the rape happened?

I have spoken to my foster parents about the rape and sexual assault but I have not told them my real age.  They have been so good to me and still support me in everything I do. It will hurt them immensely to learn that I have lied to them. They have suggested I take a lie detector test to prove what I am saying is the truth.

Can I take one in Portsmouth and will it help?

Response from Hampshire Polygraph Examiner

It is despicable that a person, whose job it is to protect refugees, should abuse you in this way. It’s made worse by him blackmailing you. This charity worker should not be allowed anywhere near vulnerable people.

A Portsmouth lie detector test can be conducted and if the result shows no deception, you can take it to the police. You must report what has happened to you truthfully, to stop this man abusing others.

Your lie detector test results will cause the police to investigate the matter more thoroughly. If he is charged, it will be at the discretion of the judge whether the results can be used as evidence in court. In terms of your status and age these things will surface and you may need an immigration lawyer to help you if you have difficulties with the authorities.

But you have taken the first step toward moving forward with your life without the burden of this secret weighing heavily on you. You may benefit from contacting the Rape Crisis Centre on 07572 748364. Meeting people who have similar experiences and survived, will help you appreciate that you are not alone.
